While out on a walk this afternoon, with my wife, my dogs, and my Canon G1X, ISO 200, f 2.8, 1/640th.

January 22: Fashion Foto
Jean and I went to the Peabody Essex Museum today... one of the exhibits, called Future Beauty, had some very interesting Japanese fashion, from the ridiculous, to the bizarre, to almost wearable. All in all, it was cool to see, and worth the price of admission. However, I was really interested in Toshio Shibata's photography. Amazing work, and I bought the book! This shot, above, was a one and done opportunity, before museum security rushed over to point out the "No Photography" sign. Canon 6D, ISO 20000 (yes, 20K), f 4.0, 1/40th.
January 21: A Ballsy Photo
It takes a lot of balls to post my "photo of the day," a day late. Deal with it.
Canon G1X, ISO 400, f 2.8, 1/15th.

January 20: Peeping Tom(cat)
I just happened to have my camera in hand when I looked out the window to see this cat walking through the yard, up the back porch stairs and then around the corner to start staring in my window. He (she?) looked surprised to see me staring back, and bolted after a second. Shot with my Canon 5D, f 5.6, ISO 800, 1/125th.
January 15: Black ice
Our morning walk was tricky: everything was coated with a thin layer of black ice. Worst winter ever!
January 12: Prelude
At the beautiful Shalin Liu Theatre with my father, waiting for the Borromeo and Gioviale String Quartets to begin!

January 18: Snowfall
I was surprised with the heavy snow today: thick, heavy, wet flakes. It was sloppy, but I figured I'd head out for some pics. Here is my pic for the day, but you can see some more here. Canon 6D, f 9.0, ISO 1000, 1/160th.

January 17: Eiskristall
There are many shapes and patterns to be seen all around us every day. Sometimes I like the ways clouds are arranged or just the way a series of pavement cracks are oriented. This formation of ice crystals is gone by now, with the warm-ish weather we've had, but it was there this morning and that's enough for me. Canon G1X, f2.8, ISO 100, 1/400th.

January 16: Flock
We have a neighbor who feeds the pigeons. At any given time, there can be nearly a hundred of these guys (girls?) circling the neighborhood to settle down at his feeder. Shot this morning on my walk, Canon G1X, f5.6, ISO 400, 1/1250th.

January 14: Roadside
You'd think that with a day off from work that I'd have a chance to actually think about and plan a photo, or maybe even take a walk with the camera. You'd think that, but you'd be wrong. Often, my days "off" are busier for me than being at work. So, with the day drawing to an end, I pulled over to the side of the road, propped my G1X, on a mini-tripod, on to my dashboard, and shot this through my rain soaked windshield. It's art I say! Shot at f5.6, ISO 800 with a 1-second exposure.
January 13: Waffle Sole
I really can't think of another shoe with such an iconic sole. Some might even say soul. The pattern doesn't mean much to most people, but to skaters and BMX'ers, it's immediately recognizable and always off the wall. Canon 6D, f4.0, 1/80th, ISO 4000.

January 12: Tres hojas
Three leaves sitting on some of the only remaining snow. Shot with my handy Canon G1X, ISO 200, f5.6, 1/20th.

January 11: Neighborhood Patrol
Gary and Luna check the neighborhood for enemy scents, leaving their own to ward off intruders. Canon G1X, ISO 800, f5.6, 1/25th, handheld while jogging.

January 10: Tracks
Yeah, some days the photos will be boring. Take today for example... I was called in to work early, so my "free time" was cut short. You get to see my tire tracks in the snow, which I though made a cool pattern. That same snow caused many, many, many broken bones for residents of the North Shore. Snow tires are important, but something like Stabilicers are imperative. Shot with my Canon G1X, 1/80th, ISO 200, f5.6.

January 9: Neighborhood Meeting
Tonight I joined several hundred of my Beverly neighbors at a meeting to learn more about the efforts to stop the proposed land-swap deal that would increase traffic in North Beverly. It's a bad deal all around that seems to only benefit the developers while significantly impacting the quality of life in our fair city. I'll be there to vote NO on February 8th. Learn more at savebrimbalave.org. Shot with Canon 6D, ISO 25600 (!), f6.3, 1/20th (handheld)

January 8: Frozen Tide
With the record low temperatures, it's hard NOT to shoot images that capture the mood and feel of this blustery, winter day. This pic, taken in Manchester-By-The-Sea shows frozen sea water, which of course freezes at a much lower temperature due to the salinity and motion of the water. Many seagulls were dejectedly squating on the frozen surface. Jean and I took a few pics, but could only last so long in the singe-digit temps and biting wind. Shot with Canon 6D, f8, ISO 200, 1/320th.
